The Salisbury Little Athletic Centre (SLAC) was founded in October 1973 and competed at the Salisbury North and Karrendi Primary Schools. In 1976, we moved to Creaser Park where we had 45 eventful and productive years. In 2021, SLAC moved to our new state of the art home at Bridgestone Athletics Centre, a shared facility with Northern Districts Athletics Club and Ingle Farm Little Athletics Centre, each club having their own day of competition.
Over time, Salisbury Little Athletics Centre has become known across the athletics community as a club for all athletes in a safe, friendly, and family environment, helping thousands of children reach their potential all whilst having fun.
The 23/24 season saw the beginning of an exciting new era for Salisbury Athletics. We proudly celebrated the club’s history with the Salisbury Little Athletics 50th Anniversary and embraced the club’s future, embarking on the largest expansion in our history and, in doing so, becoming Salisbury Athletics Club. The introduction of Seniors within the club for the first time, after being granted affiliation with Athletics South Australia (ASA), has been an exciting venture and gives our athletes a clear pathway, within the club, from Tiny Tots (3-5yo) to Masters and everything in between.
Salisbury Athletics logo was originally derived from the City of Salisbury Coat of Arms, and the rocket, a component of the Coat of Arms, represented Salisbury’s association with the munitions factory (now DSTO). A simplified version incorporating an “S” (standing for Salisbury) wrapped around a rocket was chosen.
The Salisbury Centre, and the senior offshoot Salisbury Amateur Athletics Club (now part of Northern Districts AC) were the first athletics club in SA to wear the Green and Gold. The colours were chosen for 3 main reasons; they were the Salisbury City Council colours; they are the most easily recognised colours by the human eye and they are Australia’s colours. The Salisbury Athletes still proudly are the only club in SA to wear only Green and Gold uniforms.
