FAQs
Do I have to stay with my athlete?

YES, parental supervision is required at all times for everyone’s safety, ABSOLUTELY NO DROP & GO, as per the SA Little Athletics Child Safety Standards. If you do need to leave for an emergency situation, please speak to a committee member.

We ask that you please help where possible with training and competition, your athletes love having you involved and many hands make light work. Unsure how? Check out some ideas on our website Salisbury AC Information & Policies , or ask your athlete’s chaperone/coach.

How can I help?

*Help set up and pack up at meets and trainings.

*Offer to assist with cooking/serving at the BBQ.

*Pack the equipment back into the crates after each event.

*Help with your athletes group. Most field events need at least 4 parents to help and without the help we can’t run that event. Helping may be recording, measuring, spiking, raking, retrieving shotputs/discus or many other jobs.

If you are unsure how to help at an event, please ask the group chaperone, another parent, or a committee member. We understand that some families have multiple children at the club and it isn’t always possible to help at each age group.

*Assist with the running of events when we are away from the centre.

*If you have any other questions please see a committee member.

What do the athletes wear/ how do I get a uniform?

Uniform: is to be worn by all registered athletes and is a green and gold polo shirt (singlet option is available for u12 and up) and green shorts (running shorts, throwing shorts or bike shorts). These are available to purchase online from Sports Centre. Socks should be predominantly white. Skins are permitted under uniform, plain black or green with no labels. Tiny tots are encouraged to wear their “pocket rocket” shirts gifted by the club.

Badges: Registration number is attached to the front of the uniform top with the age group number above the on the left-hand side (see example here)

Training: Athletes should wear appropriate clothing for movement and the weather.

Shoes: Running shoes, waffles (recommended for grip on the synthetic track for younger athletes) or spikes (U11s up only) should be worn. These are available from Sports Wear shops (Salisbury InterSport offer a discount for Salisbury Members).

For more specific details please see the handbook (Salisbury AC Information & Policies) or speak to Aimee or another committee member.

When is training held?
Little Athlete Training is held on Monday and Wednesday afternoons. U6-U8 athletes have training between 4:30-5:30pm & U9 and up have training between 5-6:30pm. Each session has a mix of events with a rotation between them. Please make sure your athlete is dressed appropriately with a hat and water bottle. Come & Try athletes are welcome to join training. Please see Facebook group for any changes to training.
What is a Home Meet?
A Home Meet is the club competition that is on the scheduled season calendar at Bridgestone Athletics Centre. These are the equivalent to a “game day” in other sports and count towards season points. At times during the season, we have an “away” meet where we visit another club. These are also on the calendar and are counted as a normal home meet for points and attendance.
Why are Home Meets important?
Various awards and qualification criteria are published for the Little Athletics season. They revolve around minimum “Participation in Home Meets” criteria. State and Regional Competitions don’t count for this. The two main qualification criteria of interest are for Salisbury’s Age Group All Round Champion Athlete and State Individual Championships. For the exact rules and qualification criteria you should refer to the other section on awards (Age Group Champion) and the SALAA website - State Individual Championships Rules and Other Information
What does “participation” and “attendance” at home meet mean?

Participation is recorded for an athlete when they have recorded a result in at least 50% of the events scheduled for that meet. Usually this means 3 events since our programs have 5 events scheduled. If an athlete records less than 50% of the events on that day they won’t get the points for that meet, even if they were there. If an event or meet is cancelled due to safety all athletes receive attendance points

What if a home meet is abandoned due to weather?
Athletes will automatically be credited with attendance points for any meet that is cancelled due to weather. If a meet starts but cannot continue, only athletes in attendance will be credited points.
What if an athlete is injured and prevented from competing?
You may apply in writing to the Committee to have home competitions credited in the event of an injury. Include details of which meets the athlete will miss/has missed and the general nature of the injury and a letter or certificate from a health professional (Doctor, Physiotherapist or Podiatrist etc.) within the month of the absence. For more details, please see the Bylaws or chat to a member of the committee.
What does a Centre Record Mean?

Centre records are an acknowledgement of the best performance on record of each event. Some of our current centre records have stood for a long time.

A centre record can be claimed at any meet listed on the official Salisbury season competition calendar.

Two (2) club officials (there is a list in the clubrooms and on track) must witness and sign off the attempt and then it is reviewed by the committee.

Each record broken is given a certificate with the final for the season being entered on the Records Board.

For more details and information please see a committee member or the current by-laws.
